SPD FIU Investigation Leads to Recovery of Trafficking Weight of Fentanyl, Cocaine and Illegal Firearm

Springfield, Mass. — On Friday January 9th at approximately 6:50 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) seized a trafficking weight of cocaine/crack-cocaine, trafficking weight of heroin/fentanyl and illegal firearm and arrested 42-year-old Gilberto Flores Jr.  

For the past several months, FIU Detectives have been investigating the illegal distribution of crack-cocaine around the area of the Eastbrook Apartments.  Detectives identified an apartment on the 200 block of Fernbank Road and Flores Jr. as the target location and suspect respectively.  Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for the apartment.  

On Friday evening, Detectives executed the search warrant.  Flores Jr. was detained pending the search. 

During the search, Detectives recovered approximately 99.3 grams of cocaine and crack-cocaine, 68.4 grams (3420 bags) of suspected heroin/fentanyl, $1680 in cash, an illegal large capacity firearm and loose ammunition.  Flores Jr. was placed under arrest.   

42-year-old Gilberto Flores Jr. of Springfield is charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Improper Storage of a Large Capacity Firearm near a Minor
  • Cocaine Trafficking 36-100 Grams
  • Fentanyl Trafficking more than 10 Grams
  • Heroin Trafficking 36-100 Grams
