SPD FIU Seize Ghost Gun, High-Capacity Magazines and Drugs on Summit Street
Springfield, Mass. — On Thursday January 8th at approximately 5:45 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) along with members of the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department under the direction of Sergeants David Robillard, Evan Donermeyer and Patrick Denault arrested two suspects, seized illegal firearms and narcotics on the 0-100 block of Summit Street.
For the past several months, FIU Detectives have been investigating the illegal distribution of narcotics from an apartment on Summit Street and identified two suspects, 42-year-old David Negron and 39-year-old Joan Rivera.
On Thursday, Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for the apartment.
Around 5:45 p.m., Detectives executed the search warrant. Mr. Rivera was taken into custody outside the apartment and located six packets of heroin/fentanyl on him. Mr. Negron was taken into custody inside the apartment where Detectives recovered eight packets of heroin/fentanyl on him.
During a search of the apartment, Detectives recovered a ghost gun loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition, a firearm magazine loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 31 rounds of ammunition, an 11 round firearm magazine, a 10 round firearm magazine and approximately 200 rounds of loose ammunition. In addition to the drugs located on the suspects, Detectives recovered approximately 22 vials of crack-cocaine, 50 bags or a half-pack of heroin/fentanyl and a gram of cocaine. $277 in cash was also seized.
42-year-old David Negron of Springfield is charged with:

- Possession of Ammunition
- Possession of a High-Capacity Feeding Device
- Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine (Two Counts)
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
- Improper Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm without a License
39-year-old Joan Rivera of Springfield is charged with:
- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws
- Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm – Subsequent Offense
- Carrying a Firearm without a License – Subsequent Offense
- Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine (Two Counts)
- Possession of Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
- Possession of a Firearm with Three Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
- Improper Storage of a Firearm
