SPD Officers Seize Illegal Firearm, Cocaine and Heroin
Springfield, Mass. --- On Thursday December 11th at approximately 4:45 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Neighborhood Stabilization Bureau under the direction of Sergeant Runuel Bibby arrested 39-year-old Jose Lopez-Santos and seized an illegal firearm and narcotics.
Between 4:20 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. officers observed a subject, later identified as Lopez-Santos, conduct several suspected drug deals on the 600 block of State Street.
Officers then stopped and detained Lopez-Santos near the intersection of State Street and Thompson Street. Officers recovered approximately 25 snap-caps of cocaine, 18 snap-caps of crack-cocaine and 30 bags of heroin on him as well as $240 in cash. Officers placed Lopez-Santos under arrest.
During a search of his backpack, officers seized a loaded illegal firearm. The firearm was reported stolen out of Holyoke.
39-year-old Jose Lopez-Santos of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Firearm Violation with 3 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
- Receiving Stolen Property less than $1200
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug – Subsequent Offense (Heroin)
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug – Subsequent Offense (Cocaine)
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug – Subsequent Offense (Crack-Cocaine)
