SPD Officers Seize Illegal Dirt Bike
Springfield, Mass. — On Saturday November 22nd, members of the Springfield Police Department conducted Off-Highway-Vehicle (OHV) enforcement across the city which led to the seizure of one illegal dirt bike and an arrest.
On Saturday afternoon, Springfield Police Officers were conducting an anti-Off-Highway-Vehicle detail to deter the illegal riding of dirt bikes and other off-highway vehicles. These vehicles are illegal on any city street and have led to serious injuries and death to numerous riders. These riders are also known to drive recklessly, putting pedestrians and other vehicular traffic in danger.
Around 1:25 p.m., Officers observed a subject, later identified as Miguel Lopez III, speeding on a dirt bike on Roosevelt Avenue. Officers later saw that same rider on Benton Street. The rider's dirt bike then stalled in the area of Alden Street and Lakeside Street. Officers placed Lopez under arrest and seized the dirt bike.
The dirt bike was uninsured and unregistered and the rider was unlicensed.
24-year-old Miguel Lopez III of Holyoke is charged with:
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Uninsured Motor Vehicle
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Snow/Recreational Vehicle - Public Way Violation
- Miscellaneous Motor Vehicle Equipment Violation
- Unregistered Snow/Recreational Vehicle
