Springfield Police Proudly Participate in Faith & Blue Weekend

Springfield, Mass. — On behalf of the Springfield Police Department, Police Superintendent Lawrence E. Akers and retired Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood are proud to announce a successful Faith & Blue weekend.  

The Springfield Police Department partnered with Springfield Diocese Parishes, Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Sacred Heart on a non-perishable food drive that culminated on Sunday.  

Diocese of Springfield Bishop William Byrne led mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Sunday and thanked the officers in attendance for their service.  The generous donations from both parishes filled two Springfield Police pickup trucks and another vehicle.  

On Tuesday, Superintendent Akers, Captain Julio Toledo, Sergeant Jacob Werbicki and members of the Springfield Police Neighborhood Stabilization Bureau distributed the food to The Gray House in Springfield.  

The Gray House is a small neighborhood human service nonprofit located in Springfield, Massachusetts. Their mission is “to help its neighbors facing hardships to meet their immediate and transitional needs by providing food, clothing and educational services in a safe, positive environment in the North End of Springfield."

Superintendent Akers and retired Superintendent Clapprood would like to thank Bishop Byrne, Father Robert White and Sister Betty of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Msgr. George Farland and Patricia Kern of Sacred Heart, and all those who donated for their support during Faith & Blue weekend.
