SPD Officers Recover Illegal Firearm after Gun Call

Springfield, Mass. — On Saturday October 4th at approximately 9:40 p.m., Springfield Police Officers seized a loaded firearm and crack-cocaine while arresting two suspects in connection with a gun call and disturbance.  

Around 9:00 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Monrovia Street for a gun call.  Officers arrived and observed two subjects, later identified as Rey Garcia and Shania Sanchez, yelling on a porch. Officers had received information that during this disturbance a victim saw Garcia with a firearm.  The same suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at the same victim in a prior altercation on September 20th.  

Officers detained Garcia and Sanchez.  During a search of their vehicle, officers located a loaded firearm and a bag of crack-cocaine.  Both Garcia and Sanchez were placed under arrest.  

23-year-old Rey Garcia of Springfield is charged with:

  • Improper Storage of a Firearm
  • Stalking
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Class B Drug
  • Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Two Counts)

21-year-old Shania Sanchez of Springfield is charged with:

  • Improper Storage of a Firearm
  • Stalking
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Class B Drug
