ShotSpotter Activation Leads to Recovery of Illegal Firearm and Three Arrests
Springfield, Mass. — On Wednesday October 1st at approximately 9:45 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Neighborhood Stabilization Bureau, Springfield Police Officers assigned to Squad “C” and Massachusetts State Police Troopers seized a loaded firearm and arrested three suspects after a ShotSpotter activation.
Around 9:30 p.m., Springfield Police Officers responded to the 0-100 block of Tyler Street for a ShotSpotter activation. Officers recovered evidence of a shooting and observed property damage to the siding of a home.
Officers located the suspect vehicle on Main Street near the Chicopee line. Officers conducted a traffic stop and the vehicle pulled over on Center Street near Plainfield Street in Chicopee.
The driver, Jessica Alvarez, and passengers David Coleman and Germaine Wray were detained.
Officers observed crack-cocaine on Wray's lap and additional crack-cocaine in a bag. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded firearm. All three occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest.
27-year-old David Coleman of Chicopee is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Intentional or Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
- Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number During the Commission of a Felony
- Conspiracy
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Malicious Destruction of Property
47-year-old Germaine Wray (Homeless) is charged with:
- Firearm Violation with Three Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Intentional or Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
- Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number During the Commission of a Felony
- Conspiracy
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Malicious Destruction of Property
- Threat to Commit a Crime
- Possession of a Class B Drug - Subsequent Offense
47-year-old Jessica Alvarez of Pittsfield is charged with:
- Firearm Violation with Three Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Intentional or Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
- Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number During the Commission of a Felony
