SPD FIU Investigation Leads to Two Illegal Firearms Recovered
Springfield, Mass. — On Thursday September 18th at approximately 12:05 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Sergeant David Robillard and members of the Hampden County Sheriff's Department seized two illegal firearms and arrested 20-year-old Samuel Irenes-Colon in connection with a firearms investigation.
For the past several months, FIU Detectives have been investigating Irenes-Colon for the illegal possession of a firearm. Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for his home on the 400 block of Canon Circle.
Detectives executed the warrant shortly after noon and detained Irenes Colon and two other subjects who were later released.
During a search of the home, Detectives recovered two illegal firearms. One firearm had an obliterated serial number. The second firearm was loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, making it a large capacity firearm. Additional ammunition was also recovered, and Irenes-Colon was placed under arrest.
20-year-old Samuel Irenes-Colon of Springfield is charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card (Two Counts)
- Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number
- Improper Storage of a Firearm
- Improper Storage of a Large Capacity Firearm
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
