SPD Retired K9 Mr. Warner Receives National Career Achievement Award

Springfield, Mass. — Retired Springfield Police K-9 Mr. Warner received a prestigious national award this past weekend in Washington D.C.

In partnership with Paws of Honor, dvm360 recognized K-9 Mr. Warner with its career achievement award.  This annual veterinary conference recognizes two K-9's each year for this honor.  The award acknowledges his service and vital role veterinary teams play in supporting care through retirement.  Paws of Honor offered a heartfelt thank you to K-9 Mr. Warner and his handler, Springfield Police K9 Officer Eric Blair for their bravery and unwavering dedication.  

Mr. Warner and Officer Blair, worked together for eight years before the K9 retired in 2021.  In addition to assisting in hundreds of arrests, Mr. Warner helped train more than three hundred members of American Medical Response (AMR) to help pass Nero’s Law that allows EMT’s to respond to K9’s wounded in the line of duty.  Named by students at the Warner School, Mr. Warner also worked in support of Dakota’s Law, which would provide medical coverage for retired K9’s in Massachusetts.
