SPD Officers Arrest Suspect with Illegal Firearm in Stolen Car

Springfield, Mass. — On Wednesday August 6th at approximately 1:10 a.m., Springfield Police Officers assigned to Squad “A” seized an illegal firearm after locating a stolen car on the 100 block of Walnut Street.  

Around 1:00 a.m., members of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center (R-TAC) informed officers that they observed a stolen vehicle on the 200 block of Hancock Street.  

Officers then located this vehicle in a driveway on the 100 block of Walnut Street.  Officers approached the vehicle, which had two occupants.  The driver was identified as Hussein Mohamed, the female passenger was later released.  Officers placed Mohamed under arrest.

During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered a loaded firearm.  The firearm was loaded with ten rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 15 rounds.  The vehicle was reported stolen out of Somers, Connecticut.  

18-year-old Hussein Mohamed of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
  • Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle
