SPD C3 Officers Seize Loaded Firearm after Traffic Stop
Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 5:50 p.m. on Thursday July 31st, members of the Springfield Police C3 Neighborhood Stabilization Bureau seized a loaded firearm after conducting a traffic stop on Maple Street.
A few minutes earlier, officers were in the area of School and High Streets when they observed a vehicle without its headlights on in the rain run a red light while speeding. The vehicle's registration was also revoked.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on the 0-100 block of Maple Street. The driver, later identified as Luis Ortiz, did not have a license. During a search of the vehicle officers located a loaded firearm inside the car. Officers placed Ortiz under arrest.
28-year-old Luis Ortiz of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
- Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration
- Uninsured Motor Vehicle
