Traffic Survey Film, Part 1 of 5
There are some great historical details of Main Street: the officer on busy corners directing traffic, the styles of cars, the style of dress, the buildings, and more. It is a five part piece that provides a brief look at life in Springfield in the late 1920's. The films require the Adobe Flash Player.
The film is a little choppy and shaky because it was produced with the camera and operator riding on top of a trolley car as it moved up and down Main Street.
The introduction text card of the film reads:
"Top of an electric car for the purpose of showing the various traffic conditions existing on Main Street at Springfield, Mass. The pictures reveal traffic conditions prior to and during the rush hours."
The second text card reads:
"These pictures were taken through the courtesy of Mitchell Photo Shop, Springfield, Mass."
The third text card reads:
"The reel was taken on Wednesday April 15, 1928 between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 P.M."
