The Joseph A. Budd Assessment Center (Youth Aid Bureau) located at 50 East Street includes the Juvenile Services and the Student Support Unit.
The Budd Center opened October 10, 1997 and moved to East Street in 2018.
The focus of the act is to de-institutionalize status offenders, separate juveniles from adult offenders and remove juveniles from secure areas of the police department. The officers assigned to the Budd Center process all juveniles under arrest, investigate criminal cases where the suspect is a juvenile, investigate and maintain reports of runaway and missing juveniles and work with the Springfield Public Schools to provide a safe and healthy learning environment. In order to provide early intervention, the Budd Center has worked to create a strong partnership with all agencies focused on meeting the needs of the family.
