Springfield Forestry recruiting Community Advisory Board members for Urban Forest Master Plan Initiative

– Springfield Residents, apply now! –

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Director of Parks, Buildings, and recreation Management Tom Ashe, City Forester Alex Sherman, and Forestry Project Administrator Arthur Sanchez Jr. are pleased to announce that the Springfield Forestry Division is launching a Community Advisory Board (CAB) for the Urban Forest Master Plan (UFMP) initiative. The Forestry team is currently working to recruit Springfield residents and community members to participate.

The application is currently open and Springfield residents are invited to apply. The Deadline is Friday, August 14th.

Springfield Forestry is working to develop an Urban Forest Master Plan to establish a long-term framework for managing Springfield's urban forest over the next 20 years. Eight to ten Community Advisory Board members are needed to help Forestry develop a strategic framework for managing Springfield’s urban forest in a way that reflects the needs and values of our communities, while maximizing the forest’s ecological economic, health, and social benefits.

CAB members are not expected to bring knowledge or expertise around the City’s environmental goals or best practices for urban tree management, but rather someone that cares about the environment, cares about their neighbors, and can reliably attend monthly meetings. A small stipend will be provided for community members that are selected for the CAB.

Time Commitment. The CAB will meet monthly for one year, from September of 2026 to August of 2027. Each meeting will be in-person in Springfield for up to two hours. Two meetings will be in the form of “field trips” to look at areas of the city that the CAB will be discussing. CAB members may occasionally be asked to help coordinate and/or attend engagement opportunities outside of the regular meeting time.
