Mayor Sarno announces Cancer in “Complete Full Remission”

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno is happy to announce that during his regular treatment visit this past Monday, August 10th, Dr. David Fisher from Dana Farber has informed him that his cancer is in “complete full remission” and that the mayor’s chemo treatments are “now complete, with no side effects”.  As he has done during this nearly two-year period of treatments, the mayor will continue his schedule with no limitations.  He will be back at Dana Farber for a routine six-month check-up.

“First off, my wife Carla and I want to thank my incredible team of doctors who have been treating me throughout this nearly two-year journey,” said Mayor Sarno. “Thank you to my retired PCP Dr. Francis Murray, Dr. Phil Glynn of Mercy Hospital – Caritas Cancer Center, Dr. David Fisher – Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Dr. Jonathan Slater, my current PCP Dr. Spencer Haller – Baystate Health, and Dr. Amrita Karambelkar – Trinity/Mercy, and all of their staff.”

“A special and heartfelt thank you to my beloved wife Carla, who has been by my side throughout this journey – I could not have done this without her, she is my Florence Nightingale, and my daughters Cassandra and Chiara.  To my daughter Chiara and Tom Ashe for their help with Carla driving down with me to Boston for my weekly and monthly treatments.  I also want to thank my internal staff in the Mayor’s Office (Billy, Mini, Molly, Rose, Shay, Genesis and Judi) too.”

“This has been a long, nearly two-year journey, but I am very grateful to be in ‘complete full remission’.  I am truly humbled and thankful to have received so many words of encouragement, thoughts and prayers from everyone who reached out and shared their support with me throughout this journey.”

“To all those who continue to fight this battle, my thoughts, prayers and words of encouragement go out to you.  Having gone through this process myself, I wish everyone good health and pray that their own journey has a happy ending with some good news too.”

“I am feeling great, and with a renewed sense of vigor and strength.  I am looking forward to the years to come and doing what I love, serving the people of Springfield in my role as mayor of our great city.  God Bless.”
