Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Executive Director of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management Tom Ashe, Community Preservation Committee, city, and neighborhood officials joined at Tree Top Park in the Outer Belt neighborhood on Wednesday morning to unveil the neighborhood park renovations with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The ceremony also took place 17 years to the day, after the Sarno Administration opened Treetop Park.
Treetop Park, located at 258 Corcoran Boulevard, is a 17-acre park in the Outer Belt Neighborhood. It is home to a playground and soccer field. And now, thanks to a $250,000 investment from the Community Preservation Committee, the neighborhood park features an accessible ¼ mile walking path and other enhancements, including an improved accessible entrance, inclusive and accessible swing set, accessible playground surfacing, benches, trash bins, and irrigation.
Mayor Sarno states, “Neighborhood parks are important, and I am proud of our continued investment in parks across the city. Our parks are an integral part of our neighborhood communities, they offer a meaningful outlet for families, while helping to enhance our overall quality of life. As you may have heard me say, for me growing up, parks were my ‘Riviera.’ Family vacations are not always within reach; I cherish those memories of playing in the park and am committed to keeping up with park enhancements all throughout Springfield in all neighborhoods. Our Springfield parks offer convenience, safety, immersion into nature and escape from the urban environment. We are extremely proud that we have invested nearly $130 million our city-wide park system under my tenure.
