Springfield’s Veterans Memorial Golf Course hosts Massachusetts Amateur Qualifier today

Springfield’s Veterans Memorial Golf Course will once again host a qualifying round for the upcoming Massachusetts Amateur Golf Championship. The qualifier will be held at Springfield’s Veterans Golf Course on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 beginning at 7:30 a.m.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the Massachusetts Golf Association has selected Veterans Memorial to host a qualifying event. There will be 105 players from throughout Massachusetts playing in the qualifying round at Veterans tomorrow, vying to make the cut for the Championship in July at the Winchester Country Club. The top 8 players will advance to the 118th Massachusetts Amateur Championship.

Veterans Golf Course Manager Rick Lombardi stated, “We are proud to be hosting a Massachusetts Amateur Qualifier event like this once again. This will be our 4th consecutive year being chosen by Mass Golf to host an event. There are over a hundred players from all over the state, and eligibility handicap must be a 3.6 or better – which means some really good golf will be played. The golf course is in tremendous shape and the weather looks beautiful for this event. We are looking forward to showcasing our beautiful public course.”

Both Springfield’s public municipal golf courses, Franconia and Veterans, have recently undergone major renovations. Last golf season brought in record-breaking revenue; together the city’s public courses garnered 2.3 million dollars during the 2025 golf season on rounds of golf, and golf cart rentals. In addition to being local fan-favorites, the courses have been nationally recognized and are quickly becoming a hidden jewel in the region, while also offering some of the most affordable rates in the area.

The 18-hole Veteran’s Memorial Golf Course in Springfield, Massachusetts features 6,350 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 69.3 and it has a slope rating of 121 on Bent grass.  Designed by Geoffrey S. Cornish, ASGCA, the Veteran’s Memorial Golf Course opened in 1964.
