Mayor Domenic J. Sarno wrote our federal delegation a letter in support of keeping the United States Post Office Contract Postal Unit (CPU) Branch at 150 Boston Road location and services open for our residents and small businesses.
Mayor Sarno reiterated to our federal leaders, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, U.S. Senator Edward Markey, and U.S. Congressman Richard Neal, that this unique CPU Branch location plays a pivotal role for the postal needs of the neighborhood. Mayor Sarno has heard directly from Pine Point residents and business owners following the news of the closure.
“Members of the community have reached out to me directly to share their concerns on how this closure would be a loss for our community while also forcing residents and small businesses alike to have to travel further away and out of the area for their postal needs. The nearest postal offices are miles down the road from 150 Boston Rd,” said Mayor Sarno.
This letter is in follow up to Mayor Sarno’s visit last week to Springfield’s CPU Station #14 located at Gateway Hardware at 150 Boston Road, along with other elected officials and Pine Point residents, to speak on the termination of the contract and closure of the services.
Mayor Sarno is advocating that the decision to close the branch will be overturned to keep this community pillar where it is.
“This location is a strong blue-collar and business corridor neighborhood,” Mayor Sarno stated. The neighborhood relies upon these essential services and the convenience it brings. This location not only helps to increase foot traffic for the partner business but it also enhances postal services and access for our community, especially for the hard-working residents of the Pine Point neighborhood. The management offer an old school style of a warm, trusted, and welcoming place to do business.”
