Mayor Sarno echoes MCOPA call for ‘accountability from every part of the criminal justice system’

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno wrote to President of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association (MCOPA) Chief Woodson and Executive Director Chief Bradley to thank them for a recent letter regarding the Memorial Drive Shooting in Cambridge, and their support of our brave men and women in the public safety field that work hard every day to keep our community, residents and businesses safe.

Mayor Sarno thanked the leaders of the MCOPA for their strong and heartfelt letter about the tragic Cambridge situation and others that occur each and every week throughout our cities and town neighborhoods and districts.

Mayor Sarno also reiterated that he has been a longtime advocate for bail reform on the state level. He shared, “I have put together legislation for the last decade, with state Representative Angelo J. Puppolo, Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni, and Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi on this very issue (see attached).  Unfortunately, this bill never gets any traction in the Legislature.  It was recently, and once again, sent to study order.  I / We would appreciate any assistance in moving this piece of legislation so that our District Attorneys would have a means to help keep these repeat violent criminal offenders off our streets and out of our neighborhoods.  This would potentially help to avoid tragic incidents such as what happened in Cambridge.”
