Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and over 5,300 fans, on short notice, celebrated a thrilling Thunderbirds 1-0 overtime win in last night at the Thunderdome. With this win, the Thunderbirds advance to the Calder Cup Division Finals and also made AHL history by scoring the biggest upset in a series victory ever.
Mayor Sarno states, “How ‘bout them T-Birds?! A hard-fought overtime victory against the Providence Bruins, after a defensive battle in regulation, in which Goalie Georgi Romanov continues to ‘stand on his head’ with another stellar performance- right now, he’s the T-Birds Playoff MVP. Having a shutout game, Romanov left the crowd in the Thunderdome waving their white T-Birds Towels chanting ‘Georgi’. The Thunderbirds are advancing to play the Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton Penguins in the Calder Cup Division Finals. Let’s pack the Thunderdome when our Thunderbirds play at home on May 19th. Hope to see you there!”
The series, which kicks off on Tuesday May 12th in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, is a best of 5 series, guaranteeing that at least one game will be played at the Thunderdome.
