Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Police Superintendent Larry Akers and Director of Parks, Buildings and Recreational Management (PBRM) Tom Ashe, announced continued enforcement efforts from the city to crack down on illegal dumping in the throughout Springfield today.
Mayor Sarno, members of the Springfield Police and Parks Departments joined today to share recent citations issues to illegal dumpers. The PBRM team continues to maintain numerous security cameras at multiple sites throughout the city to catch individuals illegally dumping.
Today at the beautifully restored Monkey House inside Forest Park, Mayor Sarno, along with PBRM Director Ashe, Police Captain Dave Martin, and Captain Richard Labelle, shared the list of violators along with photos of individuals caught in the act on one of the city’s cameras, which are mobile and rotated to different locations.
Mayor Sarno stated, “We are going to remain vigilant to ensure everyone understands illegal dumping will not be tolerated in the City of Springfield. We continue to expand our operation and now have over 20 cameras being utilized; violators should be aware we will catch up with you, so think twice. I want to thank Director Tom Ashe and Superintendent Larry Akers and their dedicated teams for their continued efforts to crack down and catch these culprits. This program will remain a priority for my administration and we will provide the necessary resources to ensure all violators are prosecuted.”

- 12-20-24 at 1:05 pm – Issued citation to registered owner of m/v Andy Cenat of 6 Townsend Street apt.1 Malden, MA
- 2-9-25 at 5:22 pm – Issued citation to registered owner of m/v Gregory Greene of 31 Charter Oak Ave #C3 Hartford, CT.
- 2-26-25 at 5:47 pm – Issued citation to registered owner of m/v Jose Rodriguez of 582 White St. Springfield.
- 3-1-25 at 3:12 pm – Issued citation to registered owner of m/v Paul Gluck of 17 Sherwood Dr. Longmeadow.

“More than half of the illegal dumpers are out of towners,” explained Mayor Sarno. “To all the illegal dumpers: I’d like to go and dump their ‘sh-t’ right on their front lawns. Some are multiple and repeat offenders and I’d like to see our court system back up our city efforts with stiff penalties. I’d also, like the media to go to these illegal dumpers homes and put them on the spot and embarrass them- ‘why?!’ We will be releasing names, addresses and photos too. Our dedicated city employees, and respectful residents work hard to make our city clean and safe. We will not tolerate the disrespect – our city is not a dumping ground. However, without penalties from the courts as well, this behavior will continue. To the courts, please back us up and send a strong message to those who dump illegally.”
Parks Director Tom Ashe added, “The Department of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management is committed to working closely with Springfield Police to eliminate blight caused by illegal dumping activities. I want to thank Mike McCloskey and the Springfield Police Officers for their outstanding efforts to identify individuals illegally dumping in our city. It is unconscionable that residents and even people from outside the city consider illegal dumping as an option. We will continue to expand the program and at the Mayor’s direction we will continue to monitor all sites and prosecute offenders. It is time that everyone realizes we have an affordable bulk pickup process and the rules need to be followed.”
