This morning at MGM Springfield, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt, MGM Springfield President Louis Theros, 2025 Pancake Breakfast Chair District Attorney Anthony Gulluni, Spirit of Springfield Chair John Sjoberg, along with Spirit of Springfield Board members, sponsors, supporters, and volunteers to announce that this year’s 2026 Honorary Chairperson of the World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast is State Representative Carlos Gonzalez.
The World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast celebrates Springfield’s birthday and honors someone who has made significant contributions to the community. This year, as America celebrates 250 years since the Revolution, Springfield is celebrating our 390th Birthday. The 2026 Pancake breakfast will be held on Main Street on May 16, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
At today’s announcement, we took a moment to honor the late Peter Lappin, a true gentleman and positive force for our Springfield, who was a major supporter of our Pancake Breakfast. A special surprise was also announced – this year Springfield’s Pancake Breakfast will include a Flash Mob! Stay tuned on how to participate.
Today, last year’s Honorary Chair DA Gulluni passed the torch to his World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast Honorary Chair successor, State Representative Carlos Gonzalez who has served our Springfield and Western Mass community on Beacon Hill for over a decade. He has served as Chair of Public Safety and Homeland Security and as Chair of the Massachusetts Black and Latino Caucus. He continues to be a champion for our Springfield community and his enthusiasm and positive energy are unmatched.
Mayor Sarno states, “Congratulations and a well-deserved honor for my friend, our dedicated State Representative Carlos Gonzalez. He always shows up with passion, energy, and love for our Springfield community. As Rep. Gonzalez mentioned today, I starting referring to him and his economic philosophy as “salsa economics” years ago because of his great analogy comparing the ingredients of economic development to that of a traditional salsa or sauce – no matter what culture or background – when making the sauce/salsa you have to have all the flavors coming together to get it right. He is a great choice to lead us in celebration for Springfield’s 390th Birthday and the World Largest Pancake Breakfast right here in downtown Springfield with the beautiful mosaic of our Springfield community. Our World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast takes many dedicated people working together and we are all looking forward to celebrating. The World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by MGM Springfield, will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 8am to 11am on Main Street from State Street to Bridge Street. The annual pancake party will feature a hot, hearty breakfast of pancakes, coffee, juice, milk, lots of entertainment and activities, and community spirit.
