Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined Congressman Richard Neal and city and state officials at the Richard E Neal Cybersecurity Center of Excellence located inside Union Station, Springfield MA for an update meeting with MassDOT Rail Administrator Meredith Slesinger, MassDOT West-East Rail Director Andy Koziol, and Interim MassDOT Secretery and General Manager and CEO of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Phillip Eng on Wednesday morning.
The city’s Chief Development Officer Tim Sheehan, Deputy Development Officer Brian Connors, Director of Administration and Finance for the Department of Planning Economic Development Amanda Pham, were in attendance along with President of the Worcester Chamber of Commerce/former Lt. Governor Tim Murray, State Senator Jake Oliveria, State Representatives Angelo Puppolo and Carlos Gonzalez, and President of the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce Diana Szynal.
Mayor Sarno states, “From jobs, to housing, to economic development opportunities, transportation is crucial for a strong city and we are fortunate to have had these critical federal investments and support from Congressman Richard Neal toward the multi modal transportation hub at Union Station and beyond. I appreciate Phil Eng and the MassDOT team for being here today to provide these updates. From manufacturing of the railcars for the T right here in Springfield at CRRC to developing a plan for hourly train service to NYC, I deeply appreciate the robust collaboration with our state leaders, especially Governor Maura Healey and her administration on moving the West-East/Compass Rail project forward. Springfield truly is the ‘crossroads’ of New England and we are looking forward to more progress and expansion of services.”
