Mayor Sarno and City Officials visit with John Barros, Interim Executive Director and Officials from the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Chief of Staff Bill Baker, DPW Director Chris Cignoli, and Chief Development Officer Tim Sheehan met with General Manager of the Mass Mutual Center Sean Dolan, Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) Officials, including the newly appointed Interim Executive Director John Barros.

Mayor Sarno states “It was great to visit with John Barros. John, who worked as Boston Mayor Marty Walsh’s Chief of Economic Development, gets that Mayors need things done yesterday. Working together to promote economic development with the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority for our Springfield, has always been a priority for my Administration. We are excited about the economic development benefits of our continued partnership. From our strategic investment and foundation work in the new Civic Center Parking Garage, Bruce Landon Way, and activating the walkability of the Main Street corridor, to the record numbers of visitors coming to a diverse line up of events and performances right here in the heart of our downtown Springfield – I commend the MCCA, the MassMutual Center, my development team including CDO Tim Sheehan, and all our partners who continue to support the growth of our Springfield. All of this work, which is outlined in the Court Square Urban Renewal Plan, is continuing to expand retail offerings and creating jobs for our residents. The MCCA is continuing to invest capital and renovating and enhancing the inside and outside of the Mass Mutual Center, to continue to keep it as the region’s premiere convention center.”
