The City of Springfield’s Aquatics Division will once again be offering a Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course during April school vacation week. Course participants will learn CPR, First Aid, AED, and Water Rescue Skills.
The course will take place during the April school vacation week at Milton Bradley Elementary School on 22 Mulberry Street. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Persons 15 years of age and over can register for the course, which runs Tuesday, April 21 through Friday, April 24, 2026. A mandatory in-pool test will be given to all participants prior to the first day on Wednesday, April 15. Based on the results of the swim test, participants who pass will continue on to the full course.
The City of Springfield is now offering FREE CERTIFICATIONS for any Springfield Public School student! Cost for the program is $250.00 (cash or check only) per person for City residents and $350.00 for non-City residents. All fees must be paid by the first day of the class.
Mayor Sarno states, “We are thrilled to be able to offer this lifeguard training course again for free to our Springfield Public Schools students during their school vacation week. Getting trained and certified early in the year can lead to great summer job opportunities as a certified lifeguard. I encourage our Springfield Public Schools students to explore this opportunity. Thank you to PBRM Director Tom Ashe, Aquatics Director Joe Federico and our dedicated Aquatics team for their continued efforts throughout the year to provide safe, healthy, and fun aquatics facilities and programs.”
The department is pleased to offer an invitation to all interested participants to learn these valuable life skills. The course is part of the Aquatics Division’s ongoing commitment to provide quality programming.
