Springfield DPW dedicates Extra Crew for Pothole Repairs – Hot-Patches Coming Soon –

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Chris Cignoli, Director of the Department of Public Works (DPW), announced Friday that the DPW will be dedicating an extra crew to respond to pothole repairs throughout the city.  After a brutal and unprecedented winter, which saw heavy snow amounts and long-lasting sub-zero temperatures, DPW road crews have been handling snow plowing and hauling operations along with road repair services.  With the warmer weather upon us, these crews will now begin the full transition to pothole and roadway repairs.

Mayor Sarno states, “This has been an unprecedented and brutal winter.  I want to commend our dedicated DPW crews for their ongoing efforts – this has not been an easy winter season.  With the warmer weather now on the horizon, DPW crews will begin transitioning from operating both snow plowing and hauling operations, and pothole and roadway repairs, to full pothole work.  DPW Director Chris Cignoli will be allocating resources and personnel, and an extra crew, to tackle the potholes as a result of all of the snow and melting of ice.”

“It is important to call in any potholes you see so that our crews can fix them.  If you see a pothole, please call our 311 Call Center at 413-736-3111 to report it.  DPW crews will put it on their list and have trucks out there to fill them in.  On behalf of the City of Springfield, thank you for your patience and understanding,” added Mayor Sarno.

DPW Director Chris Cignoli said, “I want to commend my dedicated crews and personnel for their efforts.  This has not been an easy winter season, but they did a good job considering the sheer volume and amount of snow and ice we received.  We anticipate the asphalt plants to be opening and in full operations in a few weeks – if not sooner.  When they do, we’ll begin utilizing permanent hot-patches to address any potholes.  In the meantime, we’ll continue to use cold-patches as a temporary fix until the plants are ready.  Please, continue to call our 311 Call Center to report any potholes so DPW can fill them in.”
