Mayor Sarno joins Supt. Akers, SPD in celebrating Captain Edward Geier

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno was honored to join Police Superintendent Larry Akers, Command Staff, and the Springfield Police Department in celebrating Springfield Police Captain Edward Geier Sr.’s forty-year career and retirement.

Today marks 40 years to the day that Captain Ed Geier began his career with our brave and dedicated Springfield Police Department. On March 3, 1986 Captain Geier started his first day on the job, and also met fellow classmate Lawrence Akers. Today, Superintendent Lawrence “Larry” Akers presented Captain Geier with is 40-year pin. Mayor Sarno issued a proclamation declaring today “Captain Edward Geier Sr. Day” in the City of Springfield as we celebrate his retirement.

Before becoming a police officer, Geier served as an EMT and paramedic, and often speaks to new members of the Emergency Medical Services profession at the American Medical Response graduation ceremonies. He was also integral in the implementation of Body Worn Cameras in the Department. During his career, he has received departmental accolades for delivering a baby, his role in ending a hostage situation, and solving an armed robbery to name a few.

Mayor Sarno states, “I was honored to be part of celebrating and thanking Captain Ed Geier – my brother Elk – on his well-deserved retirement. Captain Geier is so reliable, so committed to protecting and serving our community. From Detective Bureau to Community Policing, to serving as the Public Information Officer, Court Liaison, and Internal Investigations, Captain Geier has been actively involved in making our SPD the best department possible. His institutional wisdom is truly invaluable. Ed, you will be dearly missed, but we know you will always have SPD in your heart. Thank you for your brave and dedicated service. Continued success and God Bless.”
