Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Chief Development Officer Tim Sheehan, city and state officials joined with Anton Melchionda, founder of Onyx Partners Ltd, his lovely mom and team, and developer Dinesh Patel on Wednesday morning to celebrate the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the Grand Opening of Springfield Crossing on Boston Road.
State Senator Jake Oliveira, State Senator Adam Gomez, State Representative Carlos Gonzalez, State Representative Angelo Puppolo, City Councilor Tracye Whitfield, City Councilor Zaida Govan, and members of the Indian Orchard Citizens Council also joined for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Springfield Crossing is the new shopping center development located at the site of the old Eastfield Mall on Boston Road. New offerings inside Springfield Crossing will include BJ’s Wholesale Club, Chic-Fil-A, PetSmart, Carter’s Kids clothing, Chipotle, Chase Bank, LazyBoy, Sketchers, Hobby Lobby, Target, and more. BJ’s, Chic-Fil-A, Chipotle, and PetSmart are all officially open.
The Springfield Crossing development has transformed the Eastfield Mall property and enhanced the economic vibrancy of the Boston Road corridor with this state-of-the-art, central mixed-use commercial and retail hub.
“This is an exciting economic development project, one that will reinvent and enhance the commercial and retail activities and amenities along our Boston Road corridor,” stated Mayor Sarno. “This is another project that people did not believe would get done. My administration is proud of our work with the developers, Onyx, to make to this project – an $80 million dollar investment – a reality. Not only has it transformed the area, this project has also brought more of that good four-letter word, JOBS! The Springfield Crossing project created 800 jobs including construction, and we have a couple hundred Springfield residents currently employed here. I deeply appreciate Anton Melchionda and the Onyx team for being great partners and he also acknowledged that my administration was great to work with as well. Congratulations to Onyx, and each of the new retailers, and thank you for your belief and investment in our Springfield.”
