Although it happens to be one of the coldest days of the season so far, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Executive Director of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management (PBRM) Thomas Ashe are happy to announce that the new chiller for the Mason Square Branch Library has arrived and is being installed.
The chiller unit at the Mason Square Library, located at 765 State Street, had previously been struck by lightning, causing damage and compromising the unit’s capacity to cool the building. The rooftop unit is being replaced today, with work overseen by the city’s Department of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management.
“Baby it’s cold outside, and this summer at the Mason Square library we’ll be nice and cool inside as the brand-new rooftop AC chiller unit is installed to replace the damaged one,” said Mayor Sarno. “Our dedicated Parks and Facilities team is being proactive in continuing to move on HVAC projects throughout the city. When the weather gets warm – which it will – it will be nice and comfortable with reliable AC at our Mason Square Branch Library. Thank you to PBRM Director Tom Ashe, Director of School and Municipal Buildings Jon Carignan, and the entire team for your continued dedicated efforts in upgrading and enhancing our school and municipal buildings throughout the city.”
PBRM Director Tom Ashe stated, “We are very happy to share this positive news for the neighborhood and get this installation done in order to ensure the Mason Square neighborhood has a reliable place to go and be comfortable and safe during the warmer months. The Mason Square Library Branch is often used as a cooling center in coordination with the city’s Department of Health and Human Services during the warmer summer months. During the winter time, the library is comfortably heated and open during regular hours.
