Mayor Sarno Continues to Advocate for Maternity and Newborn Service Care in Springfield – Provides Update –

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris, Chief Development Officer Tim Sheehan, City Solicitor Stephen Buoniconti and Chief of Staff Bill Baker met with officials from Governor Maura Healey’s Office and the state Department of Public Health on Wednesday, December 3rd, to express their concerns on the temporary loss of service at Mercy Medical Center’s Family Life Center.

Mayor Sarno states, “In my continued advocacy to lessen the impact upon families and reassure residents that maternity and newborn services will continue with limited interruption of service, I remain hopeful and implore Baystate Health and Trinity/Mercy Medical Center to preserve access to maternity and newborn services for our residents of Springfield and Western Massachusetts.”

“We will continue to monitor this situation closely.  I am hopeful that Baystate and Mercy will preserve this vital public health service to expecting mothers and their infants.  Anything less is unacceptable,” added Mayor Sarno.
