Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, wife Carla Sarno and Executive Director of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management Tom Ashe stopped in to visit and see the new Square One, a new state-of-the-art facility at their new location at 186 William Street. Their former location was destroyed by the 2011 tornado.
Mayor Sarno and PBRM Director Tom Ashe were joined by President and CEO Dawn DiStefano, and Vice President of Development and Communication, Kris Allard, who showed them the new building.
The new location includes four new preschool classrooms, family support services and administrative offices.
Mayor Sarno states, “Congratulations to President and CEO Dawn DiStefano, VP Kris Allard, and the dedicated team at Square One as they ‘return home’ to the South End. It’s ‘back to the future’, and ‘from the ashes rises a phoenix.’ I am so appreciative of Square One’s presence throughout our city in providing an outstanding caring, safe, nurturing and educational environment for our children and their families.”
Mayor Sarno continued, “With their new state of the art building, beautiful outdoor playground area, and nurturing and caring staff, I am pleased to see Square one continues to serve children and young adults in our Springfield community. I am happy that my administration, along with other donors- including Jeb Balise and the Boston Red Sox, to name a few, were able to help kickstart their ambitious move back to the South End neighborhood.”
