The City of Springfield’s Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced that today, Thursday afternoon, November 6, 2025, the City of Springfield was notified by the state Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) that the bridge on St. James Avenue over the abandoned rail line near Albany Street needs to be completely closed in order to perform some emergency repair work. Detour routes will be posted.
It is estimated that the work could take a number of days.
The bridge is owned and maintained by MassDOT and they will be in charge of the needed repairs.
