City of Springfield Municipal Golf Courses hit Record-breaking Revenue in 2025 Golf Season
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Executive Director of Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management (PBRM) Tom Ashe are proud to announce that the City’s two municipal golf courses, Veterans Memorial and Franconia, have a combined record-breaking revenue of $2.3 million dollars during the 2025 golf season on rounds of golf, and golf cart rentals. Franconia Golf Course led the way with nearly $1.2 million in revenue just this year.
The City’s golf season typically lasts nine months, starting in early spring and ending in late fall.
Mayor Sarno states, “As clear fan favorites, Veterans and Franconia have a joined record-breaking revenue of $2.3 million dollars for rounds of golf and golf carts. We continue to receive rave reviews about our two public golf courses, Franconia and Veterans – now the inside of both the Veterans and Franconia Clubhouse’s, which had not seen any major updates since they were built in the 1960s, matches the quality of the courses that my administration recently invested $1 million toward enhancing the quality of play for golfers of all ages and levels. Our public golf courses have been nationally recognized, and are quickly becoming a hidden jewel in the region, while also offering some of the most affordable rates in the area. Thank you to PBRM Director Tom Ashe and team for their continued efforts in maintaining these beautiful and affordable courses. I’d also like to thank our Capital Asset Construction team under Pete Garvey for getting the clubhouse projects done. Just like our courses, the Clubhouses look beautiful.”
Mayor Sarno added, “A special thanks and congratulations to our Veterans Golf Course team, led by Golf Course Manager Rick Lombardi, and Assistant Manager Ed Palumba, as well as the Franconia team, led by Golf Course Manager Steve Carle and Assistant Manager Ken Kacoyannakis, and Senior Greens Superintendent for both municipal courses Anthony Kowal. The dedicated crews at both Veterans Memorial and Franconia Golf Courses have worked hard to not only keep the municipal courses beautiful, but also to creating a welcoming and enjoyable course for people of all ages and abilities.”
PBRM Director Tom Ashe states, “On behalf of the Department of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management, we are deeply appreciative of Mayor Sarno’s continued, and multifaced investments in our open spaces and recreational opportunities, including our two renowned public golf courses. Franconia Golf Course led the way with nearly $1.2 million in revenue just this year alone, with the newly renovated club houses being a major draw to all golfers in the area. We’ve extended the game for everyone to enjoy – with adaptive golf carts, and the city’s youth program for our Springfield Middle Schoolers. I would like to say a big thank you to all of the managers and staff at both Franconia and Veterans Memorial Golf Course for their hard work on this record-breaking year!”
