City of Springfield’s Forestry Division supports Community Green Spaces in Springfield thanks to recently awarded TD Tree Days grant

TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank®, has selected the Springfield Forestry Division to receive a 2025 TD Tree Days grant to help support local tree planting efforts. TD Tree Days is the bank's flagship volunteer program dedicated to enhancing outdoor spaces through community planting events, implemented in collaboration with the Arbor Day Foundation and local planting organizations. The grant allowed the Springfield Forestry Division’s staff and volunteers to plant 40 trees in the Brightwood Neighborhood in Springfield on October 15, 2025.

Since launching the program in 2011, over 22,000 native trees and shrubs have been planted with the help of over 9,000 TD volunteers from across the bank's U.S. footprint. The program brings TD colleagues, their families, and local organizations together for planting events to help revitalize green spaces, especially in areas with limited tree cover.

Approximately 1,900 more trees and shrubs will be planted this year in partnership with the Springfield Forestry Division and 19 additional organizations who were also awarded a TD Tree Days grant.

“Access to green spaces is essential to the health and well-being of our communities," said Paige Carlson-Heim, Head of Social Impact at TD Bank. “Through TD Tree Days, we're proud to work with local organizations like the Springfield Forestry Division to enhance greener outdoor spaces that connect neighbors, improve air quality, and support the community.  We're grateful to our volunteers, colleagues, Arbor Day Foundation and local planting organizations whose commitment to our 14th annual planting events help revitalize these green spaces for our communities from Maine to Florida.”

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated: “The trees planted with the 2025 TD Tree Days Grant will beautify our city and further cement Springfield’s reputation as not just the ‘City of Homes’ but also the ‘City of Trees,’ a legacy we are very proud of.”

“We are thrilled to partner with an amazing group such as our friends at TD Bank,” added Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management Director Thomas Ashe. TD truly understands the importance of not only beautifying our public green spaces but also recognizing the health benefits that the trees and tree canopies provide”.

Springfield City Forester Alexander Sherman stated: "We are excited to partner with TD Tree Days and the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 40 new tees in the Brightwood neighborhood. These trees will help us with our goal to increase the tree canopy in Springfield and will continue to provide important environmental, social, and economic benefits to our residents for decades to come."

TD Tree Days is the bank's signature volunteer and urban greening program. TD Tree Days contributes to the goals of the TD Ready Commitment through the Vibrant Planet driver of change, helping to grow and enhance green spaces that provide ecological services for stronger, more resilient communities.
