Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joins with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sonia Dinnall to celebrate the success of Warner and Harris Elementary Schools on Thursday, October 9th, 2025.
Students were celebrated with special visitors from Springfield Central High School’s Football Team, Cheerleading Team, and Drumline.
In addition, Frederick Harris Elementary School’s Band also performed. The band is an extension of the award-winning High School of Science and Technology Band, which brings musical instrument education to Springfield Public Elementary Schools.
The two schools were named as 2025 Schools of Recognition from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for their growth and achievement. This designation acknowledges the commitment and hard work of students, teachers, and staff at both schools. Their successes stem, in part, from a strong focus on meeting the needs of multilingual learners, resulting in gains in English Language Arts, math, and science.
Mayor Domenic Sarno stated, “This is a tremendous recognition and acknowledgment for Warner School, Frederick Harris Elementary School, and our Springfield Public Schools. Superintendent Dr. Dinnall and I want to congratulate Principals Robin Sanchez and Kara Harris, and the dedicated team of educators for their efforts in enhancing and transforming the educational experience for our students. Our Springfield Public Schools continue to be on the forefront of innovative programs and initiatives, and for that, I want to thank and acknowledge Superintendent Dinnall and our Springfield Public Schools team. Continued success and God bless.”
Schools Superintendent Dr. Sonia Dinnall added, “We are thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of Warner School and Frederick Harris Elementary School. Their recognition reflects our collective efforts to create learning environments where every scholar is challenged and supported to elevate and excel. When we cultivate a culture of belief in our students and staff, we can achieve remarkable results. Congratulations to the principals, staff, students, and families of Warner and Harris schools.”
While at the school, Mayor Sarno had a chance to check out the new ADA compliant playscape that was recently added to Frederick Harris Elementary School.
