Blunt Park – Walking Track Entrance Closed for Park Improvements

The City of Springfield Department of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management (PBRM) has announced that beginning on the morning of Monday, September 29, 2025, the entrance and parking lot to the Blunt Park walking track (across from 1535 Roosevelt Avenue) will be closed to the public, including pedestrian and vehicular traffic, until further notice to make improvements to Blunt Park recreational amenities and to renovate the parking lot.

This is the entrance and parking lot for the walking path, fitness equipment, and some softball diamonds at Blunt Park. It is located across the street from the Springfield Fire Department Repair Division building at 1535 Roosevelt Avenue.

Access to this area of the park will also be closed to the public for the duration of the construction projects.  The Department of Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management is overseeing construction activities to renovate Blunt Park, with Campora Construction as the project contractor.  The renovation project is expected to be completed by June 1, 2026.

The main entrance to Blunt Park, right next to Central High School and Smead Ice Arena, at 1800 Roosevelt Avenue, will remain open for use by the public.
