Mayor Domenic J. Sarno visited, and joined in playing the drums, with students and staff from the Ignite Mentoring through Music Program at SPS Convocation on Friday morning. The students and teachers brought incredible energy and sense of connection to the assembly.
“Music brings people together and it was wonderful to be with our students who are part of the Springfield Public Schools Ignite Mentoring through Music Program at our schools convocation on Friday. I remember school trips as a kid (White Street School) to the planetarium and the symphony opening my eyes to new possibilities and potential career opportunities. Thank you to current White Street School Music Teacher Jen Gelineau for sharing these photos and your work to support and uplift our students. Shout out and thank you to Director of Visual & Performing Arts for Springfield Public Schools Gary Bernice for your continued commitment to our students and positive impact on their education. Our students continue to be shining examples of our bright future. From our award-winning Sci Tech Band, a first-class symphony orchestra here in Springfield, excellent musical educators, and so much musical talent among our young people, it only makes sense to help cultivate and the encourage youth development and expand access to engaging and educational musical opportunities. Wishing all a wonderful new school year! Good health and God Bless,” stated Mayor Sarno.
