Mayor Sarno, CAFO Buono, and City of Springfield join for bittersweet farewell to Chairman of the Board of Assessor’s Attorney Patrick Greenhalgh

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Chief Administrative and Financial Officer (CAFO) Cathy Buono, City Councilor Kateri Walsh, and many city officials from Cabinet Heads down to rank and file joined with Chairman of the Board of Assessor’s Attorney Patrick Greenhalgh and family to thank him for his tremendous service to our Springfield and wish him well as he moves on to the next chapter of his career.

Patrick began his city career in 2012 and has been serving as Chairman of the Board of Assessors since 2021. Patrick, who has remained focused on education and progress, also serves on the Massachusetts Association for Assessing Officers dedicating time to the Appellate Tax Board Committee and formerly the Education Committee. Outside of work, Patrick’s heart belongs to his 13-year-old lab mix Ruby- and to his husband Joe, though both admit Ruby runs the house.

Mayor Sarno states, “Bittersweet as we joined to celebrate and say farewell to Patrick. Our Springfield has been blessed to have Attorney Patrick Greenhalgh’s tremendous service. Since day one, with the Assessor’s office, Patrick has strived to provide a positive customer service experience. His ability to connect with taxpayers, explain complex information clearly and respectfully, ensures that even difficult conversations ended with mutual understanding. Patrick was also instrumental in helping increase exemption amounts for taxpayers and we cannot thank him enough for his work on our local option for the HERO Act to help support our Veterans and their families. We will miss Patrick’s energy and optimism, but were honored to be able to come together to celebrate and thank him yesterday at City Hall. Patrick, we are wishing you the best, thank you for your many years dedicated years of service. Good health and God Bless.”
