Mayor Sarno issues a statement on the passing of “behind the scenes” well respected community leader Richard “Rich” H. Griffin

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “So very sorry to hear about the unexpected passing of “behind the scenes” well respected community leader Richard “Rich” H. Griffin. My wife Carla and I send our sympathy, thoughts, prayers and encouragement to his wife Ethel, children April, Rich Jr., and Charles. Also, to his siblings Jay, Karon, Andy, Albert, Joan, and Melba too. The Sarno and Griffin families’ relationship dates back to the late 1940s in the Six Corners neighborhood of our city. Rich was a humble, proud and spiritual good family man and veteran. A well-respected and stoic community leader, especially when it came to youth development. He never looked for any accolades or any type of fanfare. He served our country, he served our community as a Corrections Officer with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, a mentor to many, and a very good ball player in his day – always in great shape too – a brick house! You’ll be missed my friend. May God rest your soul.”
