Mayor Sarno Requests a City-Wide Moment of Reflection on Sunday, June 1, 2025

– Reflection to Commemorate the 14thAnniversary of the June 1, 2011 Tornado –

Mayor Domenic Sarno is issuing a call to all City of Springfield residents and businesses to take a moment and pause on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at 4:38 p.m., the time the tornado touched down in Springfield. 

In a letter dated Thursday, May 22, 2025 to the City’s spiritual institutions and houses of worship, Mayor Sarno has asked for them to chime their bells on June 1st at 4:38 p.m. to mark the beginning of the tornado’s 6.2-mile-long scar through the City of Springfield.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “This marks the 14th year in which ‘The sword of Damocles’ bore down upon our city with an EF3 Tornado. Ever resilient, our city rallied and stood strong. For this I remain ever grateful to all, especially our brave and heroic first responders, our city, state and federal partners, and our citizens and business community for their steadfast continued belief and investments in our Springfield. May God continue to Bless our Springfield.”

Below is a copy of the letter the Mayor Sarno sent out to many of the City’s religious organizations requesting their assistance in commemorating the 14th Anniversary of the June 1, 2011 Tornado.
