Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt, Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi, Police Superintendent Larry Akers, Chief of Staff Bill Baker, hundreds of volunteers, and thousands of attendees for the World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast on Saturday morning along Main Street. The annual event, hosted by the Spirit of Springfield and emceed by Chris Zito from Zito in the Morning on 96.1, began in 1976 and has become a way to celebrate Springfield’s birthday/founding on May 14, 1636.
This year the 2025 Honorary Chair of the Pancake Breakfast is Springfield Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi. Springfield’s World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast features a breakfast offering of pancakes, bacon, juice, and coffee, as well as dancing, singing, and other performances. The Springfield High School of Science and Technology Band performed. St. Michael’s Academy choir students, led by Vanessa Ford also performed. Mayor Sarno gave remarks along with State Representative Carlos Gonzalez and Commissioner Calvi.
Mayor Sarno states, “Happy 389th Birthday Springfield. We had a beautiful morning down on Main Street with pancakes being poured and bacon getting grilled! I want to thank Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt and her dedicated team, and all of the sponsors, volunteers and supporters to celebrate our World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast. This family-friendly and wonderful event draws thousands to our downtown to enjoy a warm breakfast of pancakes, bacon, coffee, juice, milk and more. Special thanks to our Springfield Police Officer and Firefighters, DPW workers and Parks personnel for their efforts too.
