Mayor Sarno appoints Paul Phaneuf to Board of Police Commissioners

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno announced today that he has appointed Paul A. Phaneuf of Springfield to the Board of Police Commissioners.  Phaneuf is replacing Dr. Gary Berte whose term expired on April 1, 2025.  Mayor Sarno also reappointed Vice Chair Robert C. Jackson to the Board for a three-year term.

Paul A. Phaneuf is a proud Springfield resident who has previously served on the former Civilian Community Police Hearing Board. Paul is the independent owner of the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Funeral Chapels and served on the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Embalming and Funeral Directing. He is a well-respected business person and member of the community. 

Mayor Sarno states, “First, I want to thank everyone who submitted a letter of interest to serve on our Board of Police Commissioners.  I also extend my gratitude to Dr. Gary Berte for his time, dedication, and commitment to serving our city and community. Thank you also to Paul Phaneuf for his continued commitment and dedicated service to our community.  Paul is a well-respected resident and business owner and had served with distinction on our Civilian Community Police Hearing Board. Mr. Paul Phaneuf is a person of high character and well respected in our community. His community involvement and career experience will complement our Board of Police Commissioners well, and I have the full confidence in his abilities to serve our community in this capacity as a member of our Board of Police Commissioners.”

Other members of the Board include Chairman Albert Tranghese, Madeline Fernandez, and Norman Roldan.
