Picknelly Field, Forest Park, Rt. 5/Columbus Ave entrance, Springfield, MA 01106

It’s the start of another exciting season for our youth baseball league, which proudly includes over 100 teams and approximately 1,200 kids, ages 5 to 16. Come celebrate opening night and support our young athletes—we’re looking forward to a great game and a fantastic season ahead!

Mayor Sarno states, “The Hampden County Sheriff’s Department led by Sheriff Nick Cocchi are incredible partners to our City, especially with our unique and innovative partnership to enhance public safety and enjoyment in our beloved Forest Park. I am honored to join with Sheriff Cocchi, Stevie Athas, and the John L. Sullivan Baseball League to celebrate opening day at beautiful Picknelly Field here in Forest Park. Wishing all the youth athletes a great season. Back in our high school days I ‘wore the tools if ignorance’ as a catcher at the High School of Commerce, Legion, and college ball; and Sheriff Cocchi was a pitcher for Ludlow High and named ‘class athlete’ on the senior ballot – check out the throwback photos my staff found. We’re dusting off our old mitts for the ceremonial first-pitch on Monday night! Let’s play ball!”

The throwback photos were found in the online archives of the Commerce and Ludlow high school yearbooks.
