Happy Golfers Day and Masters Tournament Weekend!
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Executive Director of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management (PBRM) Thomas Ashe have announced that the City of Springfield opened Franconia and Veterans Municipal Golf Courses this Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
Both Franconia Golf Course and Veterans Golf Course are 18-hole courses that have undergone $1 million in renovations. Both courses are open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to dusk, and Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to dusk. Visit the golf course website for more information: https://vets-franconia-golf.com/ or call 413-787-6467.
Mayor Sarno states, “I commend and thank our Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management (PBRM) team for their ongoing excellent stewardship of our municipal golf courses. I know that PBRM Director Tom Ashe will continue the many great initiatives that started under retired director Patrick Sullivan. Our public golf courses are being nationally recognized and are quickly becoming a hidden jewel in the region, while also offering some of the most affordable rates in the area. The investments and renovations made at both Franconia and Veterans have enhanced the quality of play for players of all ages and levels. Mass Golf recently chose our Veterans course to host two major USGA Qualifying events. This was the first time Veterans Memorial Golf Course had been chosen to host this qualifying event and follows a significant $1 million renovation program investment along with the city’s other municipal Franconia Golf Course.
PBRM Director Ashe stated, “Thanks to Mayor Sarno’s support, our municipal golf courses have stood out as popular courses both regionally and nationally. The city of Springfield’s recent $1 million investment in the renovation of both of its municipal golf courses (Veteran’s Memorial and Franconia Golf Course) is already paying dividends. We have also expanded access to the game with our middle school golf program and by offering Adaptive Golf Carts. I am grateful to our dedicated PBRM team here and for Mayor Sarno’s continued support as we gear up for another busy season at our Springfield golf courses.”
