Mayor Sarno to join Mercy Hospital and the Sister Caritas Cancer Center for Advancing Cancer Care community event at the Basketball Hall of Fame
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno will join with Dr. Philip Glynn and Mercy Hospital and the Sister Caritas Cancer for a special Advancing Cancer Care community event at the Basketball Hall of Fame on April 17, 2025.
Mercy Hospital and the Sister Caritas Cancer Center recently contracted with The US Oncology Network and the nationally renowned Sarah Cannon Research Institute. As a result of these partnerships, the Sister Caritas Cancer Center will now participate in a vigorously active clinical trial program with a leading cancer research organization. This affiliation will help advance therapies for cancer patients and continue to transform cancer care in our community.
On April 17 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at the Basketball Hall of Fame, local physicians and surgeons will highlight advances in cancer care and Dr. Christopher Lathan from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will discuss the critical issues involving access and equity of care. A question and answer session will follow.
Mayor Sarno states, “First off, I’d like to say a big thank you to my dedicated team of providers at the Sister Caritas Cancer Center and Dana Farber Cancer Institute for the care and support they have provided for me over these past few months. With their new partnership with The US Oncology Network and the nationally renowned Sarah Cannon Research Institute, as a result of the partnerships, the Sister Caritas Center will participate in clinical trial programs with a leading cancer research program. This event, will include a discussion about access and equity of care with Dr. Christopher Lathan from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Here in Massachusetts, we are known throughout the world for our world class health sciences and research and advances in medicine. These advances are more meaningful and impactful when we ensure access for everyone and provide resources and opportunities to achieve the best possible health for all. I encourage everyone to attend to learn about access and equity of care.”
Dr. Glynn states, "I would like to echo the Mayor's sentiment. It is imperative to provide excellence in care across the socioeconomic spectrum of our region. We are eager to bring the full benefit of a new partnership with The US Oncology Network and Sarah Cannon Research Institute to the greater Springfield community. In addition, we have always felt fortunate to collaborate in care with institutions such as the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute."
This program is free and open to the public. Please RSVP at www.MercyOncology.com or by contacting the Sister Caritas Cancer center at 413-748-7370.
