- Mayor Sarno joins Massachusetts Mayors Association in urging DPU to provide relief and establish reasonable rates -
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, as part of the Massachusetts Mayor’s Association joined at least 25 other mayors from throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in signing on to a letter to the state’s Department of Public Utilities (DPU) conveying concerns over the recent abrupt increase in energy costs. The Mayors are urging DPU to use every tool available to immediately reduce energy costs beyond the baseline 5% reduction and establish reasonable rates that can be maintained within a sensible range in the coming years.
Mayor Sarno states, “As the letter, sent to James Van Nostrand, Chair of the Commonwealth Utilities Commission within the DPU explains, throughout Massachusetts there are working families who are struggling to keep up with exorbitant energy costs, in addition to rising costs in food, housing, and transportation. Not only should every tool in the tool box be utilized to offer some relief to our residents, proper and timely information and education for energy ratepayers is a must. I appreciate my fellow Massachusetts Mayors coming together to voice our concerns and encourage bold action.”
