Springfield Pride Parade: Bringing Joy, Growth, and Inclusivity to Springfield in 2025

A Reason to Celebrate This June: Expanding Safe Spaces for LGBTQIA+ Youth Across Springfield Schools

As we prepare to celebrate Pride Month in June 2025, the Springfield Pride Parade Organization is proud to share exciting developments for our community: the expansion of the groundbreaking Safe Space After School Program into more Springfield schools this coming spring.

Currently serving students at The High School of Commerce and Legacy Academy, the Safe Space Program is a beacon of hope and inclusivity for LGBTQIA+ youth and their allies. Focused on empowering students through tailored Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), mental health support, and advocacy training, the program will further expand into additional schools across Springfield starting Spring 2025.

What’s Happening: Safe Space Program Success and Growth

The Safe Space After School Program, launched in fall 2024, provides LGBTQIA+ youth with a nurturing, affirming environment where they can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Students engage in activities focused on:

  • Positive Action Curriculum: Teaching self-confidence, communication skills, and emotional well-being.
  • History UnErased: Exploring the often-overlooked contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals in history.
  • Community Building: Creating peer connections and a sense of belonging for students in grades 6–12.

“Seeing our students thrive in safe, supportive spaces has been transformative,” said Taurean Bethea, Executive Director of the Springfield Pride Parade Organization. “This program is more than after-school enrichment—it’s life-changing. The success we’ve seen at Commerce and Legacy Academy makes us excited to bring this resource to even more Springfield students in 2025.”

A Celebration of Pride and Progress

While June is a month to celebrate Pride, the Springfield Pride Parade Organization is committed to making a difference every day of the year. Through initiatives like the Safe Space Program and the annual Springfield Pride Parade Weekend, the organization fosters equity, education, and inclusivity throughout Western Massachusetts.

In its fourth year, the Springfield Pride Parade continues to grow, uniting the community and celebrating the diversity of the region. Alongside vibrant celebrations, this year’s focus will be on uplifting LGBTQIA+ youth, showcasing their resilience, creativity, and leadership.

Looking Ahead: 2025 and Beyond

With plans to expand the Safe Space After School Program into additional middle and high schools, the Springfield Pride Parade Organization remains committed to supporting youth at a time when representation, resources, and advocacy are more critical than ever.

“Every school we reach is another opportunity to build safer, more inclusive environments for our students,” Bethea added. “This expansion isn’t just a milestone—it’s a promise to Springfield’s future.”
