New holiday lights will decorate Court Square this holiday season on the lamp poles, fountain, and the evergreen tree.
On Thursday evening, Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Timothy Sheehan, Economic Development Director for the City of Springfield, and Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt, will get a glimpse at the new holiday halos when they are turned on for the first time.
“Thank you to Spirit of Springfield for making our Court Square shine bright with the lighting of the holiday halo display!,” stated Mayor Domenic Sarno. “The Court Square project is nearly complete and is this brings a little bit of “Bright Nights” holiday magic downtown. Thank you, Judy Matt and the incredible Spirit of Springfield team, for working to make our holiday memories bright. I also deeply appreciate the efforts of our PBRM Director Ashe and our Parks Department for their continued efforts to help spread holiday cheer throughout the city.”
The new holiday lights are being funded by the City of Springfield’s Neighborhood Enhancement Fund through the Office Of Economic Development and managed by the Spirit of Springfield. In addition to the new displays in Court Square, the project includes new holiday lamp pole displays on Main Street from Locust Street to Dover Street, and American Flags in Springfield’s on the metro center of Main Street. The flags are going to be on display from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
The ”Nouveau Halos” in Court Square were created by John Catenaci and Carpenter Decorating who produced the displays for Bright Nights at Forest Park. They are 6-feet 5.5-inches wide and 5-feet 11-inches tall, and lit with LED bulbs.
Under the supervision of the Springfield Department of Public Works, Court Square has undergone a remarkable transformation. New enhancements and features have been introduced to create a more inviting and secure environment for visitors.
