Mayor Domenic J. Sarno began a festive weekend on Friday evening with Springfield Museums President Kay Simpson for the Annual Lighting of the Quadrangle at the Springfield Museums. State Senator Adam Gomez, State Representative Carlos Gonzalez, and former State Representative Brian Lees also joined. The outdoor displays on the quadrangle were beautifully lit up and ready for the holiday season. The event featured entertainment from the Sci Tech Bans, visits from Santa, Mrs. Claus, and The Grinch!
Later, Mayor Sarno, along with Santa Claus, Senator Gomez, and Rep. Gonzalez made their way to MGM Springfield to join MGM President and COO Louie Theros, Community Outreach Manager Beth Ward, and team for the opening of MGM’s outdoor ice skating rink and to kick-off the holiday festivities with MGM Springfield’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Armory Square.
The ceremony included an appearance from the Cheerleaders from the New England Patriots as well as “Pat” the Patriot’s mascot, holiday songs performed by the Springfield Symphony Chorus, and of course a visit from Santa. Skaters took the ice as MGM’s own “magical” snow began to fall and their thirty-eight foot Christmas tree located on Armory Square was illuminated.
Mayor Sarno stated, “Santa Claus and I had a great time with both the Springfield Museums and MGM Springfield for their annual holiday lighting ceremonies. One of the very best things about this time of year is coming together with our friends, family, neighbors, and community to celebrate and be with one another. I am so grateful to have been able to join again with Springfield Museums President Kay Simpson at the Quadrangle, which looks beautiful, and to see so many families filled with the holiday spirit makes it even better.”
“My family and I also had a wonderful time at the impressive MGM Springfield Tree Lighting Ceremony and Ice Rink opening. We had a wonderful dinner at Red Rose after and bumped into our friend Boomer - how bout them T-birds! There is much to look forward to this season and I am thankful to everyone who made it such a special night. Wishing a joyous and healthy holiday season to all.”
