Mayor Sarno joins with the Native-American Inter-Tribal Council of Western Massachusetts for annual Native American Flag Raising

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined this afternoon with the Native-American Tribal Council of Western Massachusetts for their annual flag raising ceremony at City Hall to honor Native American Heritage. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined to offer a proclamation to highlight Native American Heritage Month. City Councilor Jose Delgado was in attendance.

Leader of the Native-American Inter-Tribal Council of Western Massachusetts Glenroy Buchanan, long-time member and advocate Gloria Peeler or “Gentle Running Deer,” Jeremiah Patries, and other community members joined for today’s celebration and to help raise the flag.  

Mayor Sarno stated, “It’s always important that we honor our Native Americans for not only their legacy, but also, what they continue to do for our Springfield community. The Native-American Inter-Tribal Council of Western Massachusetts has been around for many years and represents all tribes. We are honored to join each year to recognize and celebrate the rich Native American culture and spirit that adds to the beauty of our city.”

Mayor Sarno added, “A big shout out and thanks to our dedicated facilities team for their excellent work ‘facilitating’ many of the behind-the-scenes aspects of these events. Thanks for what you do and doing it with a friendly smile.”
